Narrative
On april 28, 2023, at approximately 00:39 hrs. Cst, lightning struck the corinth compressor station which is located in alcorn county, mississippi. The lightning strike caused damage to a small control fuse on the plc and therefore caused the activation of the esd system at 00:40 hrs. Cst. Tc energy was notified by the public of a potential fire after the activation of the esd system. It was later confirmed lightning ignited the gas on horsepower block 1 (hpb1) blowdown silencer. It is unclear if the original lightning strike that damaged the fuse also started the fire or if there was a second lightning strike after the esd was initiated. Local ems responded to site. Nrc notification was made within 1-hour of confirmation of incident. The event was reported to nrc (nrc 1 hr. Report #: 1365859 and nrc 48-hr. Update report#: 1365979) at 02:18 hrs. Cst. Operations responded to the scene and identified the fire and gas release. The source of the gas was isolated, and the fire was allowed to burn down to a minimum where the local fire department extinguished the remaining flame. Operations returned the corinth compressor station to service at 15:45 hrs. Cst.
