Narrative
Ameren illinois received notification that a car had left the roadway and drove into a fenced regulator station in georgetown, il. Ignition of the gas at this above grade facility occurred upon impact. The distance travelled between the location where the car left the roadway and the fence around the regulator station is approximately 261 feet. The driver and the one other passenger both were pronounced deceased. The inlet supply of gas was stopped by closing an upstream valve. Gas pressure was lost on the downstream side of the regulator station, which was a one way feed to the town of georgetown. The result was a loss of service to 1330 gas customers, followed by repairs to the gas system and subsequent restoration of gas service. *revised and final include costs related to permanent rebuild of regulator station.
