Narrative
At 12:05pm cst, the third party aerial patrol contracted by echo canyon called local operations to notify them of a release of crude oil. Operations notified the control center at 12:25pm and requested a shut in of the system upstream of the release site. Downstream manual valves were closed at 12:50 pm cst. Operations arrived at location at 12:59 pm and confirmed leak. A temporary clamp was applied to stop the release form further soil contamination. The pipeline was evacuated and remains shut in at this time. At first visual inspection, the leak appears to be caused by internal corrosion. A pipeline coupon was sent to the following for analysis: stress engineering services 13800 westfair east dr. Houston, tx 77041 based on the results of the lab analysis and rate of corrosion, echo canyon will be abandoning (removing) this segment of the pipeline. Removal of this segment will complete removal of the entire 12-inch pipeline iwhich has exhibited this mode of internal corrosion.
