Narrative
During routine power washing of outside of tank 17, a pin hole leak developed 24 feet up on 4th course. Contractor shutdown and notified facility quality inspector. Leak was contained with no impact to ground and tank was stripped in order to stop leak. Tank was emptied and taken out of service for repairs. A subsequent internal inspection of the tank (conducted on 04 oct 2022) showed evidence of internal corrosion above the riveted lap seam located at the fourth and fifth course shell (hole is in the 5th shell course). No indications of internal corrosion at this specific tank location were noted in previous inspections. The external pressure washing removed paint at the area of the internal corrosion resulting in the leak.
