Narrative
On 08/28/2022, an operator making rounds observed crude oil seeping up onto the ground at exxonmobil pipeline company llc's ("empco") anchorage terminal in port allen, louisiana. The terminal is located within the exxonmobil refinery's anchorage tank farm. A release of 6 barrels of crude was confirmed at 2:00 pm cst. The release originated from a small section of DOT station piping located beyond empco's pig launcher/receiver. The release site was secured with sorbent boom and a vacuum truck was deployed and removed approximately 6 barrels of product from soil. As a secondary barrier, the anchorage tank farm is equipped with a containment system that runs into an oil water separator. No crude product migrated outside of the tank farm boundaries. Local and federal agencies were notified as soon as the source of the release was identified. To prevent reoccurrence, the piping was replaced and moved above ground to eliminate the previous low point in the pipeline system. The system was restarted on 08/30/2022.
