Narrative
On august 15, 2022, at approximately 07:35 cst, a centurion pipeline, l.P. (cpl) employee discovered a leak in cpl's midland station near midland, texas. Cpl determined the source of the leak to be station piping and promptly isolated the leak. However, 0.65 barrels of crude oil was released. The contaminated soil will be remediated on site. No injuries, fatalities, or fires were associated with this incident. Cpl reported the leak to the texas railroad commission, office of pipeline safety at 08:16 cst on august 15, 2022, and was issued incident number 2682 in reference to the incident. At the time of this writing, the repair of the station piping is scheduled and the root cause failure analysis will be conducted pending the removal of the damaged piping segment. The resulting information related to the cause of the leak, preventative and mitigative measures (p&m), and costs associated with repairing the station piping will be submitted via supplemental report(s). Supplemental report filed on november 2, 2022: during the root cause failure analysis (rcfa) of midland station's station piping row 4 fill line, cpl determined the cause of the leak to be internal corrosion from under-deposit microbiologically influenced corrosion (mic) that resulted in a through-wall corrosion at the 8 o'clock position of the midland station's station piping row 4 fill line. In the investigation of a previous failure, cpl found that stagnant conditions existing prior to 2019 allowed water and solid to drop out in the station piping, and the presence of bacteria caused mic corrosion cells to form. Cpl finds that this failure is related to the previous failure of the midland station's station piping row 4 fill line that occurred on 08/29/2021. Ongoing p&m measures were previously schedule and are in progress. The replacement of this segment is complete. No further actions are required. Supplemental report filed on november 14, 2022: updated part c. 1 from 'interstate' to 'intrastate.'
