Narrative
On 8/8/2022 at 1900, eastern, at the kinder morgan doraville station in doraville, ga, dekalb county, while in the process of filling the station sump (for high-level alarm testing) by using drain piping from the cng mainline system, product backed-up the drain system and 8 gallons of gasoline spilled onto the pump room floor. The activity was immediately halted and no further product was lost. The gasoline was contained to the pump house floor and all 8 gallons were able to be cleaned up. Update 3/6/2022 - based on our internal investigation, unspecified debris had accumulated inside the drain system piping somewhere near the top orifice into the sump. This created a partial blockage of the piping which was not apparent since the drain system is subsurface. During routine activity, product being drained to the sump backed up due to the blockage and escaped the system through another inlet inside of an adjacent pump house. The block was cleared, and the drain system is no longer restricted. Site specific procedures will be revised to address proper procedures to fill the sump.
