Narrative
At approximately 0706 cdt on 06jul22, while shearing the 12-inch south timbalier 130 pipeline to remove stored energy in the st41 block as part of planned subsea isolation work for the pipeline de-oiling operations, crude oil was released into the gulf of mexico. Once the shear of the pipeline was complete, per the plan, the ends of the pipe were wrapped, and a pollution dome was set over the location mitigating further release. It is estimated that 0.125 gallons of crude oil was released and created a 200-ft by 70-ft light silver sheen that naturally dissipated. The two pipe sections created by the shear cut and subsequent cuts have been recovered. The pipeline has been inactive since hurricane ida and is being de-oiled over the months of july and august 2022.
