Narrative
On june 30, 2022, at approximately 09:15 there was a release of natural gas liquids (ngl) for the s131 ngl coyanosa to pegasus junction line, a regulated intrastate transmission line located 14.6 miles west of crane, tx in crane county. Crews excavated and were attempting to replace a 4 inch check valve clapper and closed the downstream 4 inch gate valve to block off the check valve. When the crew began removing the check valve top maintenance plate, ngl began to escape from the plate. Crew evacuated the work area. The release of ngl was due to a leaking gate valve downstream of the check valve. A new 4 inch gate valve and 4 inch check valve was installed and on july 2 at approximately 13:00 the pipeline was put back in service. On july 11, 2022 at approximately 09:00, it was determined that the damage and repair estimate was going to go over the $50,000.00 reporting criteria. To prevent this release from occurring in the future, operations boxed in the check valve and installed a 0.5 inch nipple and valve on the check valve maintenance plate to ensure no product is in the line.
