Narrative
On 6/24/22, the control center noted a over/short line imbalance on the eola-maysville 10-inch line. The line was shut down and field operations alerted. At 13:15, operations personnel confirmed a leak with a 20 ft. Diameter stain directly over the pipeline row. Approximately 15 barrels of crude had been released onto the ground. Crews were called out for cleanup and excavation. Upon excavation a visual examination revealed a pinhole. At 19:40, a plidco clamp was placed on the leak point. All free product was picked up and all contaminated soil was removed for off-site remediation. A voluntary 20% pressure reduction was implemented and the line returned to service. Subsequently, the line was idled while additional verification digs were completed. The failed section of pipe along with the plidco mechanical clamp was cut out on july 29-30th and the pipe was then cut open to identify the leak cause. Upon investigation it was determined that internal corrosion was the cause for the leak. A new section of pipe was welded into place.
