3/31/2022 - at kinder morgan's products (se) pipeline corps. Pure terminal in montgomery alabama, montgomery county, a local km employee responded to an explosive atmosphere detector (ead) alarm received and discovered stained gravel in the manifold area. The pipeline was shut down and the station was isolated. After excavating the area, the leak source was identified as a fitting on the facility prover. Due to anticipated costs exceeding $50k a call was made to the national response center on 4/1/2022 at 15:29 (nrc#1332504). The weld on the fitting failed due to fatigue caused by normal operation of the prover and prover ball. The fitting was an original fitting from date of installation. The repair was made by encapsulating the original fitting.
