Narrative
On july 12, 2022, tennessee gas pipeline (tgp) was notified by local ems personnel that there had been a rupture in the vicinity of tgp's 300 pipeline system in mckean county, pa, with the presence of a visible fire. Tgp confirmed the presence of the rupture in the 309 valve section of the 300-1 pipeline and found that auto-close valves had operated as designed to isolate the rupture location. The fire was contained and allowed to burn out. Metallurgical analysis revealed that the line ruptured from near-neutral-ph stress corrosion cracking. Historical in-line inspection (ili) assessment technologies available on the pipeline are not designed to detect stress corrosion cracking. After the incident, tgp completed an emat ili assessment, which is designed to detect cracking. Based on the results of that assessment tgp will remediate accordingly. Supplemental report will be submitted with updates when additional information is available.
