Narrative
On november 22, 2022, a natural gas explosion occurred at 1121 bayard street in baltimore city, maryland. It was determined after the incident that a 4" cast iron low-pressure gas main experienced a full circumferential break which allowed natural gas to migrate underground. The fracture in the cast iron gas main at this location likely occurred when the load exceeded the fracture strength of the pipe. The gas entered the residence located at 1121 bayard street. The gas that entered this property reached an explosive limit and was ignited by an unknown source.
