Narrative
On june 2, 2022, there was a natural gas release on the 99991001 wtg booster 10in tx-winkler_blk b5 sur 3,8,13,14,17,24, a type c gathering line located 4.5 miles south of kermit, tx in winkler county. The line separated and released 1,667 thousand cubic feet of natural gas due to a pipe failure from a defect due to internal corrosion. On june 14, 2022, it was determined that the damage and repairs was going to exceed the $129,300.00 reporting criteria. This event was reported to the nrc # and trrc # 2000 feet of pipe will be replaced with new pipe and to prevent this from occurring in the future, operations will have measurement conduct monthly checks on the three monitors feeding the system and lower the ppm high and high high alarm set points. The affected portion of the pipe was sent to the lab, waiting for results. A supplemental report will be submitted with lab result findings. On july 9, 2022, the pipeline replacement was complete and at 12:00 the pipeline was put back in service. On november 2, 2022, the results of the lab metallurgical analysis indicated significant wall loss due to internal corrosion. The results of the metallurgical analysis indicate that the rupture initiated in the pipe body at the 12:00 orientation and traversed through the pipe for 70-in before arresting. Significant wall loss from internal corrosion was observed in the top half of the pipe due to an upset with the producers which allowed oxygen in the pipe which created the internal corrosion. The failure was not associated with the longitudinal seam. To prevent this from occurring in the future, operations will begin pigging this line twice a week to better disperse injected corrosion inhibitor and ensure line is clean. Oxygen sensors have also been installed on this line to closely monitor the oxygen content of gas stream. Additionally, our chemical company has been instructed to check installed coupons for chemical residue quarterly and perform bacteria tests and make necessary adjustments as needed to the ongoing chemical treatment injection program. This system has also been budgeted for an ili inspection for 2023.
