Narrative
Beckley water company were making a water leak repair and called in an emergency one-call ticket. They did not wait for underground utilities to be located before digging and punctured mountaineer gas company's 2" plastic natural gas distribution pipeline operating near 30 psig. Beckley water company notified mountaineer gas company's dispatch center. Mountaineer employees were dispatched to the scene. While installing a full circle band clamp, two of them were overcome with gas and removed from the leak area by personnel onsite. Mountaineer notified 911 and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene to provide medical treatment. One employee was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and the other was taken to the hospital by another employee. Both employees were given a medical assessment at the hospital, one was admitted to inpatient hospitalization for observation, and the other was released.
