Narrative
A third-party telecommunications excavator struck a 2-inch plastic gas main while boring. The excavator had valid locates and the main was marked within tolerance but the excavator failed to pot-hole the bore crossing. The company identified gas readings in two homes upon arrival and evacuated both residences. While crews were working to shut down the main 3 millers ct exploded and subsequently caught fire. Crews immediately shut down the main following the explosion. The explosion caused damage to several nearby homes and the fire spread to 5 millers ct. The damaged gas main was replaced with a 15-foot segment of 2-inch plastic. Gas service was interrupted at 21 homes and 2 homes were condemned. A 48 hour update to the nrc was made on march 3, 2021 at 13:38. Report number 1330159.
