Narrative
On february 10, 2022 at approximately 00:20, a fire occurred at the delaware compression station, a non-regulated gathering station, 18 miles north-northwest of orla, tx, 0.1 mile south of the new mexico state line. Operations received a call from gas control stating that the compressor station had a loss of gas and operations immediately dispatched a technician to the station. When the technician arrived on site, he confirmed the station was on fire, esd the station and began to extinguish the fire with caution. When the fire was completely extinguished the technician called the local fire department in case there was a re-flash. When the station was safe to enter, operations began the damage assessment. It was determined at approximately 02:30 on february 10, 2022, the incident reporting criteria was going to be met. The assessment was determined that the #5 unit's discharge check valve ruptured causing the intake of the #3 unit, the second stage scrubber on the #4 unit and #5 unit to catch fire and the estimated damage and repair dollar amount was going to be over $122,000. The damaged discharge check valve was removed and replaced with a new check valve and has been sent to the lab for analysis. The cause of the rupture is unknown at this time, a supplemental report will be submitted once the cause is known. On february 13, 2022, at approximately 09:45 the delaware compressor station was put back into service. On march 30, 2022, the lab report was received and reviewed by our metallurgist. It was determined that a manufacturing defect combined with thermal stress was the cause of the failure. This was an isolated incident. Operations will review other check valves at other locations and replace if needed to prevent this from reoccurring.
