A contractor for home builder was digging to lower water pit when 4" pe main was damaged and blowing gas ignited. No locate request was made; excavator was digging off old utility marks. The damaged home and service interruptions occurred on homes that were not yet sold or occupied. Local operations observed the fire and responded to scene before being notified by our dispatch or local fire department. A21a ignition time is estimated, but gas had ignited prior to our personnel's arrival on scene. D2a property damage is estimated.
