Narrative
On 07/16/2020, a contractor was excavating to install electrical conduits on orange avenue in san diego and struck a fitting attached to a 6-inch medium pressure steel gas main, causing a release of gas. Sdg&e gas crews responded and controlled the leak by utilizing mainline valves in the vicinity. Further investigation found that the main was marked correctly and the contractor was not using hand tools to fully expose the gas lines. There were no injuries resulting from this incident. The incident was first reported to the cpuc when sdg&e became aware of media coverage, and later reported to the DOT when sdg&e determined that customer restore costs would result in total expenses exceeding $50,000.
