Narrative
Approximately 1.5 barrels of crude oil were released within facility boundaries from pump 1 at big spring station. The date and time of the release (08/21/2019 at 8:30) is indicative of the earliest possible time the release could have started as it was the last time the location had been visited and confirmed that no crude oil was being released. The equipment failure was due to metal fatigue of the seal. To prevent future releases from this location, paa replaced the seal, as well as inspected the adjacent pump to ensure that the same type of seal had no evidence of fatigue or seepage.
