The pipeline was shut down at 10:20 am for calibrations to transmitters at multiple facilities as per hep procedure. In the time the line was down and blocked in the thermal stress exhibited from the extreme temperatures in el paso caused an isolated section of the pig trap to be subjected to thermal stress causing the o-ring to fail. The failure was identified when hep personnel arrived on-site for calibrations at 16:43 on july 29, 2019.
