Narrative
Approximately 10 bbls of crude oil were released from an open ended and historically idled pipeline, during purging activities. It was unknown prior to pigging, that the line had been previously cut and left uncapped. As a result of pigging, residual oil came out of the open end of pipe. The purge was completed and the line was capped, so is now in an abandoned status. The national response center (nrc) was later contacted on 8/1/2019, after it was determined that cleanup costs would exceed $50,000. Supplemental narrative: updated costs associated with the incident.
