Narrative
Enterprise pipeline technician responded to a third party call observing an oil mist on 5/31/19 at approximately 19:20 at the giddings pump station. Local pipeline technician arrived at 19:27 and found a cracked socket weld on a 1" thermal bypass line on the station discharge valve. The pipeline technician closed the 1" gate valves on the bypass line, which stopped the leak at 20:05. The cause of the cracked weld was determined to be fatigue-related. A vibration study is being performed at giddings pump station to identify and possibly mitigate future fatigue related occurrences. Incident was determined to be nrc reportable at 20:30 on 5/31/19. Initial nrc notification made on 5/31/19 is #1247476 and 48 hour nrc update made on 6/2/19 is #1247609. Release volume was subsequently determined to be 10 barrels, following initial estimates of 20-30 barrels.
