A public operated vehicle lost control, ran off the road, and collided with an above-ground 10" valve setting. The vehicle broke a 2" blow-down from one side of the 10" valve setting forcing a shut-down of that section of main between this 10" valve and the next 10" main-line valve for a distance of 4.35 miles. Only 18 customers were affected for a period of two hours in this rural area during which time repairs were being made.
