Narrative
On 10/02/2019, sdg&e was notified of a third-party damage at the intersection of strandway and york ct, san diego, causing a release of natural gas. Crews responded and worked with fire and police departments to safely control the gas. There were no injuries that resulted from this incident. The contractor was working to install an 8-inch water main near a 6-inch steel gas main when a section of concrete collapsed from the pavement onto the pipe shearing off an abandoned 0.75-inch service tee from the 6-inch main. Investigation of the incident revealed the contractor failed to properly protect the exposed gas facilities during construction activities. This incident was reported to DOT and cpuc due to gas release, media coverage, and estimated damage amount exceeding $50,000. For any further questions, contact ali matin at (909) 919-0463.
