At approximately at approximately 9:50 am on the corner of stelton rd and jesse way in piscataway a sub-contractor working for lucas brothers was milling outside of the scope of the mark out and hit a drip riser. Police and fire are on the scene. the damage was leaking from when it was hit at 9:50 am until approximately 10:43 am. The damage was pinned it off it was slightly misting until 11:50 pm when complete repair was made. the final repair started with finding a safe depth that was below the level of saturation, which didn't require shoring, we excavated a clearing to that depth, an 1-1/4" stop-off plug was inserted in the damaged, 1-1/4" drip riser, the damaged riser was cut at a location that revealed good pipe condition, and an 1- 1/4" dresser end cap was installed over the drip riser as the final repair method. the initial estimate was a discharge of 30 gallons, later upgraded to approximately 50-60 gallons (the capacity of the pot). the leak left oil pooled on top of the soil in the area of the removed asphalt. The leak left a very fine intermittent oily residue on the grass, shrubs and trees of the condominium development as well as some of the external walls of the buildings and one vehicle. the storm drain grate immediately adjacent to the pot manhole was assumed impacted by the spill. Estimates indicate that only a minimal amount of oil was discharged to the drain, several ounces maximum. location clean-up has been completed, area samples are being tested to verify that the areas affected are clean and no further cleanup is required.
