Narrative
A 10 wheeler farm truck hauling potatoes flipped over while making a turn near an intermountain gas company district regulator station. The truck struck a power pole and the chain link fence enclosure of the district regulator station. The impact pushed a fence post into a 1/4" x 3/4" threaded fitting which subsequently broke causing an uncontrolled release of gas. An intermountain gas first responder shut off the inlet and outlet valves of the regulator station. Because the repairs were minor and therefore made quickly, downstream customers were not interrupted. When the initial report was made to the nrc, intermountain gas estimated the cost of the vehicle to be over $50,000. Actual costs were $26,200.
