Narrative
The city of batesville was installing a new water main in the middle of byers street when they struck a 1" cts plastic gas service to 2485 harrison st. The city was using a t655 vermeer trencher to trench through the asphalt. After striking the 1" plastic gas service line, the escaping natural gas ignited. The t655 trencher was totaled (complete loss) as a result of the fire. The cnp first responders secured the area along with the batesville fire department. The cnp local crew was called and squeezed the 2" plastic main to stop the flow of gas. The 1" service was then capped off for permanent repair. 10 commercial customers and 4 residential customers were temporarily turned off due to these repairs. There were markings on the ground indicating location of the main, however the service line itself was not located or marked.
