Narrative
On february 12, 2019 at approximately 11:00 am, a third party contractor was excavating near the intersection of abraham woods jr dr & 15 st n in birmingham, al. The contractor's one call locate request for the excavation work had been expired for approximately 5 weeks, and a new locate ticket had not been requested. A trackhoe struck the 10" steel main and caused a pinhole leak. The leak was temporarily repaired with a clamp and a new section of main was installed on february 14th to replace the damaged section. Spire determined that repair costs would exceed $50,000 at around noon on february 13th and made the incident report to the nrc.
