Narrative
Contractor for state DOT project was using auger equipment to excavate pylons for concrete sound barriers beside the interstate interchange in charlotte, nc near the intersection of I-77 and I-85 near lasalle street. The contractor did not have an active 811 locate ticket for this work and subsequently damaged the existing 14" cased pipeline that crosses underneath the I-77 interchange. The initial telephonic report to the national response center was made on 10/26/2018 when it was determined this incident would exceed the $50,000 reporting threshold.
