Narrative
On 08/31/2018 at approximately 09:15, a third-party contractor was trenching for electrical conduit installation for traffic lights at the intersection of redhawk parkway and el chimisal road, temecula. This resulted in an escape of gas. Crews responded and controlled the gas. No further damages or injuries resulted from this incident. Investigation revealed that the third-party contractor had a valid USA ticket and the lines were marked correctly. The contractor had day- lighted the 4 inch gas main previously about 6 feet away from the damage location. While continuing to trench, the contractor failed to use caution when digging by the gas line. This incident was reported to DOT and cpuc based on an estimated gas release of 3 mmcf.
