Narrative
E & d water wells was drilling a new water well for residential development without a locate. During the drilling they ruptured a 2 inch hdpe main that operates at 60 psig. The natural gas released from the damage ignited and consumed the drill rig. One individual was treated and released with minor burns from the local hospital. Emergency response was required by enstar natural gas and the wasilla fire department. Excavation was required to secure the 2 inch main for repairs. The damage required 17 residential relights and the replacement of 50 feet of 2 inch hdpe main. The estimated total cost of the drill rig is $370,000 and is a total loss to the contractor.
