At approximately 14:30 cdt on may 16, 2017, company technicians were conducting routine station maintenance work and discovered oil on the ground at the wood river terminal due to a sump overfill. It was estimated that 1 barrel of crude oil was released. All oil was contained on company property. The contaminated soil was cleaned up and hauled off by an environmental service contractor the same day the event occurred. The costs associated with the release did not meet the nrc notification criteria so no notification was made. Illinois madison county lepc and illinois emergency management agency were notified per state requirements. The overfilled sump was due to the sump high level indicator switch failing to operate as designed. The switch was replaced, field verified, and commissioned with scada.
