Narrative
On monday evening, february 6, 2017 at approximately 10:09 pm est, vectren responded to an outside odor call at 8944 crossway drive in mays, indiana. Vectren's first responder discovered a gas leak against the building foundation at that location and initiated appropriate steps to remediate the leak. While those steps were underway, at approximately 12:39 am, tuesday morning, february 7, 2017, the first responder witnessed what he described as an explosion at 726 east 900 north street which is approximately 200 feet away from 8944 crossway drive. The first responder contacted 911 and notified his supervision of the event and requested addition support. Vectren's independent investigation into the origin of this incident is ongoing. Update: further investigation discovered a 3" elbow connecting two sections of main in the vicinity of the incident was cracked. The elbow was cut out and replaced. Subsequent to that replacement, all the aldyl "a" piping in the vicinity has been replaced.
