Narrative
On december 23, 2016 at approximately 03:52 hours semco energy gas company (semco) received a telephone call in the service dispatch center in port huron that there had been an incident at the l'anse city gate station (semco regulator station no. 8031) which serves the village of l'anse, michigan and the surrounding area. A semco mechanic was dispatched to the site and arrived at 04:10 hours. Upon arrival the mechanic determined that a vehicle had hit a distribution regulator station (semco regulator station no. 8019) and caused a release of gas and subsequent ignition. As a result of the ignition and the proximity of the regulation/ metering stations damage occurred to both semco district regulator station no. 8019 and semco city gate station no. 8031. The damage to the station(s) required an isolation and shutdown of the l'anse city gate station at 04:52 hours resulting in loss of service to approximately 1,193 semco customers. Once the system had been isolated, the shutdown process was then initiated with all semco customers on the system being shut down by 22:05 hours on december 23, 2016. Following the shutdown process gas was reintroduced to the system and the customer turn on and relight process commenced at 22:50 hours on december 23rd. The turn on and relight process continued on into december 24th and by approximately 19:00 hours on december 24th approximately 1,107 customers had been reconnected and service established. With the christmas holiday weekend, the balance of those customers that could not have service re-established ('can't get in' (cgi)) by the end of december 24th were completed the following week.
