Narrative
At approximately 10:00 a.M. On october 16th, 2016 a local jayhawk pipeline employee arrived on-site to perform normal operating duties and noticed crude oil on the ground in the area of the pump, resulting from packing failure. Local personnel activated the esd (shutting down the pumps and lact unit) and initiated the emergency response. The release was isolated to the immediate vicinity of the pump and the product did not overspray to other areas. Response personnel used a tank truck unit to recover free standing crude oil and jayhawk pipeline personnel placed the 1.2 cubic yards of contaminated soil on the local remediation plot. This pump was permanently removed from service on october 27, 2016 and replaced with a screw style pd pump.
