On november 2, 2016 a company employee was conducting a routine facility inspection at tacoma station. At 16:50 the employee noticed that the control valve was leaking. The employee immediately called the control center and the pipeline was shutdown at 16:51. The station was put on by-pass and the pipeline was re-started at 22:16. The control valve is aboveground and located within a concrete secondary containment inside of the station fence line. A repair of the control valve was completed at 13:00 on november 3, 2016 and the station was brought back on-line at 13:31. An investigation into the root cause of the leak has determined that the o-ring material of the control valve broke down. The viton o-rings in the valve were replaced with nitrile, a preferable material for refined product service.
