Narrative
At approximately 10:40 am on wednesday, august 24, 2016, a contractor using an auger to install a utility pole struck a 4" natural gas main resulting in an unintentional release of natural gas. There were no injuries or fatalities. A one-call request to mark underground facilities was made prior to the excavation activity. Investigation into the incident revealed that the locating signal had drifted to an adjacent abandoned steel gas main located approximately 2' - 3' away from the active 4" plastic gas main.
