On june 30, 2016 at approximately 07:39 a four inch plastic natural gas pipeline was struck by a contractor at the northeast corner of n. Almont avenue and e 4th st, imlay city, michigan (lapeer county) resulting in blowing gas. Police and fire personnel blocked traffic and evacuated approximately 10 residences and 7 commercial businesses as a safety precaution. Consumers energy personnel performed a squeeze-off procedure stopping the flow of gas at approximately 12:45. Natural gas service was interrupted to ten customers while the damage section was repaired. Service was restored to the impacted customers at 21:00. Original preliminary gas loss calculation indicated 5,000 mcf was released. After further investigation, actual gas loss is 736 mcf and is updated accordingly in this supplemental report, along with cost of gas released. The original staking ticket was completed on june 22, 2016. There is photographic evidence that staking was completed correctly at that time. After an investigation done by consumers energy damage prevention, it was found that the miss dig restaking request was submitted on june 29th and was due on june 30th by 12:58 pm. The contractor damaged the facility around 7:40 am on june 30th, before restaking was due or completed.
