Narrative
A 2-inch plastic main with one-way feed was ruptured by a contract crew while installing sewer. One employee for the contract crew was in the excavation when the plastic main was struck by another employee operating a backhoe where the employee in the excavation was taken to the hospital as a precaution for chest pains. The company was able to later determine that the employee was being held overnight for observation. At this point it was determined that the incident resulted in an inpatient hospitalization meeting the threshold for reporting. Notification to the one-call center was made where the main was accurately located and marked before damage occurred.
