Narrative
Approximately 15 bbls of crude oil were released from a section of 12" infrequently-used pipeline due to internal corrosion. The piping was purged and removed. Plains is sending the failed piece of pipe to the lab for metallurgical testing. A supplemental report will be submitted once the results are received. Supplemental report: based on the metallurgical analysis, it was determined that the leak was the result of aqueous corrosion. The combination of water and produced fluids, which may have collected in the dead-leg, fostered an environment that promoted aqueous corrosion.
