Narrative
A 2-inch plastic natural gas main was ruptured by blasting operations while performing road construction work. The company was notified through one-call of excavation in the area where the pipeline was correctly located and marked, however, there was no indication of blasting as an excavation type on the locate request. Additionally, there is no evidence to date of the excavator attempting to protect the pipe during blasting or requesting assistance from the company in that regard. The escaping gas ignited when a nearby backhoe began digging in the area after the blasting operation was complete thus burning the backhoe.
