Approximately 10 bbls of crude oil were released when a 1/4-inch nipple, to the high pressure shut down switch on the pump discharge piping, broke. The control center received a sump high level alarm and shut down lact units that were pumping. The controller notified the field operator, who shut the valve, stopping the leak completely. The release was contained and cleaned up immediately after the pump was shut down.
