On november 19, 2014, a third party contractor was operating a ripper at night and struck a 10 inch steel transmission line, resulting in a gas leak. No injuries or further damage resulted from this incident. The incident location is 3,000 feet south of millux rd, bakersfield. The initial incident location reported to DOT was lake road, taft. All repairs to the damaged line were completed and the pipeline was returned to service in approximately 26 hours. Service to affected customers was restored over a period of 2 days. Investigation of the incident showed that the contractor had notified the one-call center and the line had been marked correctly, but the contractor failed to maintain proper clearance by not digging within 25 feet of either side of the line markings as required by agreement.
