A third party excavator, american infrastructure, damaged the virginia natural gas (vng) 8" plastic distribution gas main while performing road construction work. To make the leak safe, vng crews isolated the pipeline which caused an outage of down-stream customers. It is noted that it took a couple of months to receive all invoicing and assemble the final total expense in the repair, restoration and re-light of customers, which ultimately and unexpectedly exceeded the $50,000 notification threshold.
