Wtg gas transmission company was in the process of de-pressuring compressor unit #7 to perform maintenance on the unit. An employee began opening the 2' blow-down, releasing gas to the atmosphere. During the venting process, a screwed fitting separated, with a part of the loose vent piping fatally striking the employee. The vent valve was closed securing the release.
