Narrative
At approximately 9:37 am on april 22, 2014, an ambulance backed into a two-meter manifold in the south parking area at the offices of mobile medical response (8336 n. Saginaw, mt. Morris). The vehicle damage severed the riser from the gas meter manifold above the lockwing valve, causing gas to blow. The structure was evacuated as a result of the damage. At approximately 9:48 am, an explosion occurred at the rear (easterly) section of the building, blowing out walls and causing internal and structural damage to the rear of the building. All personnel had been evacuated and no injuries occurred as a result of the explosion. No surrounding structures were damaged. Gas was shut off at the lockwing at approximately 10:45 am. Bar testing indicated no underground migration of gas. The underground service to the building, as well as the riser, held during a post-incident pressure test. No leaks were detected at the main, and no gas was detected in nearby buildings. The specific path of migration from the severed riser into the building prior to explosion is undetermined.
