Narrative
The line was being cleaned by sand-blasting as part of a rehab following an in-line-inspection when a leak developed. Operations control was notified and promptly shut down the line. The line was initially repaired by the installation of a full encirclement sleeve and subsequently repaired by removing the segment with the leak feature and replaced with new new pre-tested pipe. The specimen with the feature was sent to a laboratory for metalourgical analysis, which confirmed that the release was the result of sandblasting material penetrating through the remaining wall of an existing corrosion pit. Approximately 5.50 cubic yards of soil was remediated in accordance with company and state standards.
