On june 22, 2013 at approximately 0010 hours pacific gas and electric (pg&e) was notified that a juvenile driver was evading police, lost control of a vehicle and damaged the meter set at 397 bluefield drive causing a release of gas. The gas ignited and caused a structure fire involving two homes and resulting in over $50,000 worth of damages. Pg&e's gas service representative (gsr) arrived on site at 0035 hours and observed that two meter sets were engulfed by the fire. Field crews arrived at 0050 hours and stopped the flow of gas at 0133 hours by digging and squeezing the 3/4-inch steel branch service in one location. Out of an abundance of caution, the fire department evacuated several homes in the neighborhood and blocked off the area. Media was not observed on scene and there were no reports to pg&e of injuries that required in-patient hospitalization. Additionally, there were no fatalities as a result of this incident. This incident was reported to the DOT and cpuc because damages due to the release of gas are in excess of $50,000.
