Narrative
A contractor excavating to complete sewer replacement work hit a 4" pe main operating at 48 lbs with a trackhoe. The gas ignited and the trackhoe caught fire. The operator of the equipment heard the noise caused by blowing gas and abandoned the trackhoe. As soon as he was clear of the equipment it caught fire. Locates were accurate and up-to-date and the contractor had pot holed exposing an abandoned bare steel and a pe main. The active 4" pe was located at a greater depth and was struck by the trackhoe. 21 homes were evacuated. No injuries or fatalities occurred as a result of this release. 09/18/2013 - latitiude and longitude coordinates were updated in part a to more accurate reflect the location of the incident. Bdk
